From the Outside by Bert Jansch Album: From the Outside Standard tuning. No capo. 4/4 time. This tab is one run through the main piece. The recording then repeats from Bar 7 with variations then Bert plays the whole again with some more variations. These variations are only slight and should be relatively easy to figure out. The brackets above Bar 6 enclose the quiet little bit that Bert plays. It is not essential to the piece but I thought you might want to know it. (I am not entirely sure of its accuracy as it is a little too quiet to tell, but it is just about right.) The bend in Bar 7 is difficult but I am convinced this is correct. As regards playing it, I pick some of it closer to the bridge to get that sharper sound. h = hammer-on p = pull-off b = bend note 1 |--------------------|-------------------| |--------------------|-------------------| |--0---0------2------|--0----------0-----| |------2---------3---|------2---------2--| |--3-----------------|--3----------------| |----------1---------|----------3--------| 3 |--------------------|-------------------| |-------------1---0--|--1----------------| |--0---0--0----------|-------------0-----| |------2-------------|------2---------2--| |--3-----------------|--3----------------| |-------------1---3--|----------3--------| 5 ( ) |--1---1---0---------|------------------------| |----------1---------|--3-------------1-------| |------2----------0--|----------------0-----0-| |--------------2-----|-----0-------0-----2----| |----------3---------|---------0h2----3-------| |--1-----------------|--3----3----------------| 7 |--0---------------------|--------------------| |-----b3-----1-----------|--------------------| |------------------2-----|--0-----------0-----| |---------2--------------|-------2---------2--| |--3------------3--------|--3-----------------| |---------------------1--|-----------3--------| 9 |--3-----------3---5--|--3---------0--------| |-----1-----1---------|---------------------| |--------0------------|--------0---------0--| |--------------2---3--|-----2---------2-----| |--3------------------|--3---------3--------| |---------------------|---------------------| 11 |-----------------0--------|--1---1--------------| |--1---1-------3-----------|------------------1--| |--0-------0------------0--|--------------2------| |------2-------------2-----|------3-----------3--| |--3-----------3-----------|---------------------| |--------------------------|--1-------1----------| 13 |--0-------------------|--------------------------| |----------3p1---------|------1-------3-----1-----| |----------------0-----|--2--------------------2--| |-------------------2--|----------3------------3--| |--3---3---------------|--------------------------| |----------------------|--1--------------1--------| 15 |---------------------|------------------------| |---------------------|------------------------| |--0------------------|------------------------| |------0-------3------|--0--0--0------0-----0--| |---------------------|------------0-----2-----| |--3-------3-------1--|--3---------------------| 17 |-----------------1--|--3--------------------| |-------------1------|-----------------1-----| |--0---0---0---------|----------0------------| |------2-------------|------2-------------2--| |--3-----------------|--3--------------------| |-------------1---3--|--------------3--------| 19 |--1--1-------0--------|-----------------------| |---------1---1--------|--3----------1---------| |-------------------0--|---------0---------0---| |-----3----------2-----|------0---------2------| |-------------3--------|-------------3---------| |--1-------------------|--3--------------------| James Calton, Sheffield, England, 2004. ________________________________________________________________________________
