(hint: this is extreme over-explanation. you're smart. i'm sure you figured this whole thing out before you even read the note.) the song. part i. repeats over and over for the intro. during the verses, the progression goes from part i. to part ii. then repeats. part iii. is used for the chorus. the part iii substition is basically what dave was playing on "listener supported" while the rest of the band did the mellow jam thing. part iv. is the heavy riff during "i'll go a long way..." as well the ending of the song. NOTE: for the ending, dave often (always?) plays this part at the same rhythm used earlier in the song, then double-times it for a few repetitiions, then ends with the regular rhythm, each note struck with definition and force. maybe you wanna do this, too... -the stone- [intro] (part i.) --(part i.-part ii.) i've this creeping suspicion that things here are not as they seem oh, reassure me why do i feel as if i'm in too deep? yes i've been praying for some way to show them i'm not what they see yes i have done wrong but what i did i thot needed be done i swear --(part i.) --(part i.-part ii.) oh unholy day if i leave now i mite get away oh but this ways on me as heavy as stone and a bone-chilling cold now i'm just... --(part iii.) ...wond'ring if you'll come along hold up my head when my head won't hold on i'll do the same if the same's what you want but if not i'll... --(part iv.) ...go i'll go a... --(part i.-part ii.) ...long way to bury the past for i don't want to pay and how i wish this to turn back the clock and do all over again now i'm just... --(part iii.) ...wond'ring if you'll come along hold up my head when my head won't hold on i'll do the same if the same's what you want but if not i'll... --(part iv.) ...go i'll go a... --(part i.-part ii.) ...long way oooh, from that fool's mistake and i'll forever pay oh, run i will run and i'll be okay but now i'm just... --(part iii.) ...wond'ring if you'll come along hold up my head when my head won't hold on i'll do the same if the same's what you want but if not i'll... --(part iv.) ...go i'll go a-... (part i.) ...-long (part i.-part ii.) oh i need so to stay in your arms, see your smile, hold you close but now it ways on me as heavy as stone and as blue as i go now i'm just... (part iii.) [same guitar with slowed singing] ...wond'ring if you'll come aaalong tell...me...you...will oh, out of this, out of this, out of this, oh well oh, let it all fall down let it all fall down let it all fall down, oh wise men say only fools rush in but i can't help falling in love with (you) [ending] (part iv.) feel free to ask anything, especially for clarification ;-) james koss / gentler [email protected] www.geocities.com/littletabguy
