Wedding Song - Paul Stookey sur Guitariff.net
Cc: [email protected], [email protected] Hi, I noticed that you included my transcription of Paul Stookey's "Wedding Song" in your submission to , but left out most of my introductory explaination. Also, you unfortunately used the first version I posted, which I worked out on my 6-string. Playing it the next day on my 12-string I noticed that I had made some errors by not taking into account the sound of the treble bass strings (for instance there is no CaddG, it's just a vanilla C). I deleted the first post and reposted the corrected version, but apparently not fast enough. ---- Wedding Song (There Is Love) Paul Stookey (Transcribed from the 25th Anniversary video) The transcription is my own, as are any mistakes. (Note: I don't have the original recording, so I don't know how closely this video version is to the original.) Note: While the song is sung in the key of E, Paul tunes his 12-string down 3 half-tones and plays it using G fingerings as seen on their 25th Anniversary video. The good news is that it's fairly easy to play this way. The bad news is that you tune all day if you want to play along with the recording. (Note to the note: in the video Paul's 12-string is actually tuned down 5(!) half-tones and then he capos up two to get the resulting 3 half-tone drop. Talk about loose strings!) (Tune down 3 half-tones from standard to play with recording) C# F# B E G# c# Finger -- -- -- -- -- -- G: 3 2 0 0 3 0 (and run with 320010, 320000) A: 0 0 2 2 2 0 Asus2: 0 0 2 2 0 0 Cmaj7: 0 3 2 0 0 0 (and run with 032200) C(addD): 0 3 2 0 3 0 Gsus4add9: 3 0 0 2 1 0 D/F#: 2 0 0 2 3 2 Em: 0 2 2 0 0 0 f#: 2 0 0 0 0 0 (bass note used between Em and G) C*: 0 3 2 0 1 0 (see note below) C: 0 3 2 0 1 0 (C-C/B-Am7-Am7/G = running bass. C/B: 0 2 0 0 1 0 Running bass notes are c-b-a-g Am7: 0 0 2 0 1 0 into the f# of the D/F# chord) Am7/G: 3 0 2 0 1 0 Last G: 3 2 0 0 0 3 (final chord of song) Picked with the thumb and two fingers using the following basic pattern. The 1st string is hardly ever played. ------------------- -----------2------- -----1------------- --------T---------- ------------------- --T---------------- 12-string vs 6-string note: You're not going to get the same sound with a 6-string as you would with the 12-string, and more than just the lack of fullness. If you play on a 6-string you will think that Paul is playing notes on the 1st and 2nd strings that are in fact being played by the thumb hitting the high-octave bass strings. Examples of this are the first C note of the Cmaj7 run, the E note in the A-Asus2 and the G note in the C* as described below. C* note: picked as follows: -----------2------- Paul plays this as a standard open C chord. -----1------------- However, the thumb striking the 3rd string --------T---------- emphasizes the high-G string on the 12-string ------------------- guitar. If you are playing this on a 6-string --T---------------- guitar you can get a similar sound by playing ------------------- a CaddG (032013) rather than (032010). Now for the song...
